Murle Griffin (Skjefte) 83, formerly of Killdeer, North Dakota, died Sunday, August 28, 2005 in Salina, Kansas. Her funeral will be Thursday, September 1, 2005 at John?s Lutheran Church in Salina with a Graveside Service and Interment to follow on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 11:00 a. m. at Dunn Center Cemetery, Dunn Center, North Dakota. A reception will be held immediately following at Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center. All are welcome. Murle was born March 5, 1922 in Killdeer, North Dakota to Gerhard and Marie (Lyseng) Skjefte. She graduated from Dunn Center High School in 1940 and received her Teaching Certificate from Dickinson Teacher?s College in 1942. Murel taught in one-room schools at both Renville School south of Dunn Center and then at the ?Island School? north of Killdeer. Murle married Edwin A. Wenko in 1943 and moved to Seattle, Washington where they lived for six years. In 1949, they returned to Killdeer where Murle lived for the next 23 years. (Eddie died August 28, 1964) Murle worked at the Dunn County Welfare Office from 1950 ? 1967. She moved to Dickinson, North Dakota and was employed at the Stark County Welfare Office. In 1969, she married Robert (Bob) Griffin in Dickinson and moved to Bismarck where she was employed at the State Capitol. in 1971. Merle and Bob moved to Salina, Kansas where they have resided for the past 33 years. Murle was a loyal member of both St. John?s Lutheran Church in Killdeer and St. John?s Lutheran of Salina, Kansas. She enjoyed her home, playing bridge and golf, and traveling with Bob to visit family and friends. Grateful for having shared her life include her husband, Bob of Salina, KS, daughters Sandy (Sam) Zeller of Coulee Dam, WA and Sharon (Stan) Dardis of Woodbury, MN. , one step-son, Gary (Kris) Griffin of St. Mary?s, GA, and two step-daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Blaskovich of Atlanta, GA, and Elaine Griffin of Southhaven, MS. Murle had six grandchildren, Edwin (Karen) Zeller, Jason (Tamara) Dardis, Christopher (Kimberly) Dardis, Jennifer (Thomas) Shawgo, Matthew Balskovich, and Jonathan Griffin and seven great-grandchildren, Taylor, Kelsey, Charlie, Lucy, Landon, Chad and Travis. Also surviving are one sister, Idella (Clayton) Johnson of Tucson, AZ, and one brother, DeWayne Skjefte of Colrado Springs, CO. , as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Murle was precede in death by her first husband, Edwin A. Wenko and an infant son, Edwin, Jr. as well as her parents, Gerhard and Marle (Lyseng) Skjefte, two sisters, Vera Dorgan and Eunice Bossert and on brother, Arley Skjefte. Memorials are preferred to St. John?s Lutheran Church of Salina KS or the Alzheimer?s Association.
