A funeral service for Nancy Cox, of Dickinson, formerly of Olympia, Washington, will be 11:00 a.m. PDT, Monday, August 20, 2018 at Marlatt Funeral Home in Kent, WA with a reception to follow. Inurnment will follow at 2:30 p.m. PDT, in the Tahoma National Cemetery with Military Honors being presented by the Veterans Service Organization Honor Guard Association.
On Wednesday, August 8, 2018, Nancy Cox, loving mother of four, dedicated nurse and soldier, passed away at the young age of 61.
Nancy was born on August 21, 1956 in Ogden, UT. Her parents were Harold and Mildred MaGee. She earned her Bachelors in Nursing from the University of Washington, and practiced nursing for well over 30 years.
In addition to her civilian service, Nancy had an accomplished military career. She enlisted in the US. Army when she was eighteen. She served active duty for a brief time and later re-signed with the US Army National Guard in 1989. In her service with the National Guard she received several awards and honors and retired Lt. Colonel. Nancy had a lot of pride in her accomplishments with the US Army, and her tireless contribution to her community.
Nancy had a passion for helping people. She especially took great interest in her work as a case manager at Madigan Hospital, where she primarily worked with soldiers.
Outside her passion for her work, Nancy loved spending time with her children and close friends. Holiday baking and family gatherings were some of her most cherished activities. She was also an avid sewer and quilter. Nancy absolutely loved the outdoors. She enjoyed traveling to the Oregon Coast, hiking Mt. Rainier, and camping.
She will be remembered for her dedication to serving others and our military, genuine caring nature, Grace and Grit.
Nancy was preceded in death, by her father, Harold. She is survived by her mother, Mildred, her four children, Sandra, Daniel, Gary and Brian, and grandchildren.
