She began her childhood on a farm north of Mott, ND, and later moved with her family to the current Zent farm near Lefor, ND. Nancy attended country school for 6 years followed by St. Mary’s in Richardton and graduated in 1966 from St. Mary’s High School. In 1969, she graduated from nursing school as an LPN. During this time, she met Maurice O. Hamann, whom she married June 3, 1968. The couple were blessed with two children, Joleen and Kimberly. They made their home in Mandan while Nancy worked at the Mandan hospital. After Maurice passed away in 1976, Nancy and the girls moved to Dickinson.

Nancy continued to work as a nurse at several of the local nursing homes. Nancy owned and operated a daycare for 13 years (Happy Day Childcare) with her sister, Pat. She served on the Stark County Social Service board.
Nancy and Larry enjoyed time spent at their cabins at Mosset Bay and Dakota Waters where they spent many hours fishing and being outdoors.
In 2012 they retired and moved to Rapid City, SD, to be near the Black Hills, Nancy’s heaven on earth. While living in Rapid City, Nancy joined St. Therese Catholic Church and was an active member of the Saturday evening mass folk group as well as the Catholic Daughters.
Some of the hobbies Nancy enjoyed were knitting, sewing, arts and crafts as well as taking lots of pictures of whatever she loved. She also enjoyed staying busy in her flower gardens. She cherished her time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
