Nicholas ?Nick? Oe was born in Lead, South Dakota on May 21, 1906, to Joseph and Emma (Carpenter) Oe. His early school years were spent in Marmarth, Rhame and Bowman. In 1923, he started working for Bernard Wilson in Dover Township near New England and then they moved to a ranch south of Medora in 1929. Nick and Eunice Wilson were married in Beach on June 24, 1930, and soon built their first house south of Medora. In 1935, they moved to a ranch south of Belfield where they lived for nearly 70 years. Nick?s focus in life was on God, family, and neighbors. His faith and trust in God were evident in his daily life. Nick was very involved in the activities of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in the Gaylord community. In recent years, he collected information about those buried in the cemetery and prepared scrapbooks, which are available for public viewing at the cemetery entrance. Nick readily offered encouragement, support, or help to others. Nick never considered anyone a stranger; he loved to talk to people of all ages. He was especially delighted with any baby as though he had never seen one before. Children of all ages were very special to him. During his ranching years, he was the unofficial community vet, sometimes traveling 30 ? 40 miles in the middle of the night to care for an animal. He also worked for the community by serving on the Soil Conservation Service Board of Directors for 32 years and Grand Meadow School District Board. Nick is survived by: his seven children: Berna (Michael) Walter, San Diego, Calif., Joyce Morton, Eatonton, GA, Emily Oe, Dickinson, Dale (Donna) Oe, Idaho Falls, Ida., Keith (Kathy) Oe, Belfield, Carol (Gary) Selby, Alpine Calif. and Dean (Twila) Oe, Belfield; 22 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren and one brother, Vernon (Lucy) Oe, Seattle, Wash.
