Nick passed away Sunday, October 1, 2023 at Marian Manor Healthcare in Glen Ullin.
Nick was born April 16, 1927 in Glen Ullin, the son of Ferdinand and Anna (Wagner) Duppong. As a young boy, he attended rural school at School Dist. #9 through the eighth grade. He worked on the family farm with his siblings until the mid-1940s when he moved to Buhl, Idaho and worked for the SEGO milk plant. While there, he also helped farmers and worked in the spud and beet fields. He was only in Idaho for a few months before returning back to Glen Ullin to help his brothers’ farm. Nick took over the family farm in the early 1950s. On November 8, 1960, Nick married Rose Mary Willett in Paducah, Kentucky. To this union three children were born, Anna, Arthur and Margaret.
Nick loved life on the farm. Alongside his family, he operated a dairy farm where they also had beef cattle, and for a short time, chickens and hogs. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and served as the meeting minutes’ recorder for two years. He was also the 6 point program chairman.
Nick and Rose retired in 1992 and moved into town. Although retired, he always kept busy chasing grandkids, helping Art on the farm, woodworking and gardening.
Nick’s family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren meant the world to him. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Nick is survived by his daughters, Anna (Tom) Six of Steele, Margaret (Roby) Kottre of Bismarck; son, Arthur Duppong of Glen Ullin; 12 grandchildren, 1 step-grandchild, 12 great-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren; sister, Anna Lutz of Desert Aire, WA; sister-in-law, Lorraine Duppong of Buhl, ID; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rose Mary (2008); brothers, Matt, John, Ferdinand, and George Duppong; sisters, Clara Durfee, Freida Nipper, Alice Gietzen and baby sister, Eva.
