Funeral Mass for Nick Gulka, 84, of Billings, MT, formerly of Dickinson will be 10 a. m. , Saturday, June 14, 2008 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Dickinson with Father James Braaten celebrating. Burial will follow in the St. Wenceslaus Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Friday, June 13, 2008 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a rosary and Vigil service at 7 p. m. with Deacon Ray Jilek officiating. Nick passed away Thursday, June 5, 2008 at The Central Court Village in Billings, MT. Nicholas James Gulka was born on January 21, 1924 the son of Sam and Lena (Anheluk) Gulka in Dunn County. He grew up and attended school in Dunn County. Nick farmed with his father and brothers. They also moved buildings through out the area. Nicholas was married to Edith Kinzel on October 11, 1944 in the Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. He continued to farm and raise their two girls. In 1953, the family moved into Dickinson where Nick began working for Kovash Construction. He later joined Fisher Sand & Gravel when there were only five employees and spent the next 28 years working for Gene Fisher. Nick retired and continued to make Dickinson his home until 2004 when he moved to Billings to be closer to his family. Nick was a member of the Ukrainian Culture Institute and past member of the German Hungarian Club. He enjoyed being with his girls, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He took great pride in keeping up with everyone and enjoyed getting everyone together. Nick is survived by: two daughters, Sharon (Larry) Salz, Billings, MT and Jeannie (Bob) Horning, Cheyenne, WY; five grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Massad, Seattle, WA, Wayne (Michelle) Massad Aurora, IL, Nikki (Jake) Kramer, Strasburg, CO, Jaime Horning, Draper, UT, Cheri (Travis) Phibbs, Snohomish, WA; eight great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Emily Massad, Derek and Justin Massad, Colson and Carson Horning and Ani and Hunter Phibbs. Two brothers, Jim Gulka, Dickinson, ND and Steven (Edie) Gulka, Lakewood, CO; two sisters, Anna Basaraba, Williston, ND and Betty (Tony) Ficek, Bismarck, ND; a brother-in-law, Ed (Evelyn) Kinzel, Billings, MT and a sister-in-law, Bertha Kinzel, Dickinson, ND. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Edith; and a brother and his wife, John (Marion) Gulka. A memorial has been established for the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregart St. , Alexandria, VA. 22311A very special ?Thanks? to all the care givers at the Rocky Mountain Home Health Care in Billings, MT. from Nick?s family.
