A funeral service for Nikki Paulson, 57, of Bismarck, formerly of Dickinson, will be held at 10:30 a. m. , Monday, November 2, 2015 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Burial will take place at the Halliday Cemetery. Visitation for Nikki will be from 9:30 a. m. to 10:30 a. m. , Monday at Stevenson Funeral Home. Nikki passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer at Sanford Continuing Care Center off Collins in Mandan, ND. Nikki was born February 24, 1958 to Paul E. and Ruby (Nodland) Paulson at Halliday, ND. She attended Halliday High School where she excelled in music; receiving the John Philip Sousa Award and graduated in 1976 as Salutatorian. Nikki went on to attend University of North Dakota and later graduated from Moorhead State University with a degree in business. In 1981, Nikki joined the U. S. Marine Corps. Due to her mental illness, she was unable to cope with military life. She tried to serve her country, but was honorably discharged after two months of service. Nikki lived in Bismarck most of her adult life. Music continued to be an important part of her life as she played her keyboard and sang for her own enjoyment. In spite of the struggles and challenges she faced in her life, Nikki was grateful for the love and care she received from her family and friends. Nikki is survived by her parents, Paul E. and Ruby (Nodland) Paulson of Dickinson; brothers, Gary (Lyla) of Park River, ND and Dennis (Carolyn) of Rapid City, SD; sisters, Paulette (Paul) Huber of Dickinson, ND and Sonja (Dean) Bergstedt of Washburn, ND; special friend, Donnie Miller of Mandan, ND; and numerous nephews and nieces.
