Nina passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital, Dickinson, ND. Nina Hansen was born December 26, 1917, to Katherine and Peter Efimenko in a little village called Dogden, ND. The citizens became so angry with the name they changed it to Butte. Nina attended rural grade school and graduated from Butte High School in 1936. After graduation, she attended Christy Beauty School in Bismarck where she stayed long enough to be able to work in both North Dakota and Montana. She was offered a job in Halliday while the local beautician had surgery. When the beautician returned to work, she suggested Nina start her own shop in Dunn Center, which she did, calling it Nina?s Beauty Shop. It was there she met Verner Hansen, and they were married in Dickinson on May 25, 1940. They lived in Manning where Verner was county auditor. In 1949, they moved to Killdeer, where Verner owned Hansen Implement. Verner died in 1987. In 1990, Nina moved to Dickinson, and in 2003, she moved to the Park Villa. In September 2008, she became a resident of Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Nina was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and St. John?s Lutheran Church in Killdeer and Dickinson. Nina loved listening to classical music, which she particularly enjoyed when macular degeneration no longer allowed her to read books. She also loved to cook and entertain for her family and friends. Lefse and homemade bread and sweet rolls were among her favorite things to bake. She is survived by her sons, Gary ?Butch? (Pat) Hansen, Prior Lake, MN, and Dale (Glenice) Hansen, Dickinson, ND; and her daughter, Virginia Salmonson, Olathe, KS. She was blessed with 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her husband, two brothers and five sisters. The family prefers memorials made to Hilltop Home of Comfort, St. John Lutheran Trust Fund, or St. Luke?s Home.
