Norma Lecretia Barnes Ferrel, 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 20, 2020.
Norma was born in Dow, Oklahoma on July 14, 1937 to John Wesley and Christine Lucretia (Pace) Barnes. The family moved to rural western Washington state when Norma was five years old. She attended school in Algona and Auburn, Washington.
Norma enjoyed working in her large vegetable garden, grooming her beloved colts, attending local brandings and homemaking. She especially enjoyed her time in the kitchen with her mother- in-law, Florence Wiseman, canning and baking and often cooking for groups of hungry hunters. But her greatest joy was her children. Norma was a natural at mothering. She could make a child feel like the most important person in the world. She had a lot of practice with her five younger sisters, her older brother and three younger brothers. Norma was the one who kept the family connected through hosting family reunions and celebrations at her and Jim’s place west of Baker. She was always there for us and the one we turned to for comfort, guidance, and unconditional love.
Norma will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 48 years, James C. Ferrel of Baker, Montana and her sisters and brothers, Ruby Powell, Bill (Theresa) Alcayaga, Patti (George) Sanchez, Mike Alcayaga, Loni (Lew) Godin, and by sisters-in-law Sharon Ferrel and Darlene Stieg.
Norma is predeceased by her parents, John Wesley Barnes and Christine Sims, her beloved sons David and Terry Dunham, her brother Clyde Barnes, sister Betty Hronek, brother Allen Barnes, and sister Brenda Ponticello.
Norma will also be lovingly remembered by her numerous nieces and nephews,
extended family and dear friends.
