Kruckenberg was born November 16, 1934, to John and Olga (Weidner) Kruckenberg at home near Elbowoods. The family moved north of Dodge for five years, then moving into Dodge where Norman attended school for 12 years. After school he worked as a ranch hand on the Greenshields and Dressler ranches for several years until enlisting in the army. After serving in the Army from 1954 to 1957 and being honorably discharged, Norman returned to the Marshall area and worked at the Dressler ranch. It was during this time that he met Madella Grevious and they married on June 3, 1960, in Killdeer, ND. They made their home in the Marshall area for several years before ranching southeast of Dodge. Norman and Madella moved their family of five children to Dodge in 1975, and have called it home to this day. Norman was a man with a big heart and a generous spirit. He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and horses. Time spent with his family was very important. Norman participated in area rodeos for many years, early on as a saddle bronc rider and later as a team roper. He enjoyed reading about the people who settled in North Dakota and pursued ranching and rodeos. A large part of his enjoyment came from sharing his books with his friends and the discussions that followed. Norman liked a good game of pinochle or rummy with his family and friends. He was a North Dakota Brand Inspector for over 40 years. Norman was a member of North Dakota Stockmen?s Association, Dodge Saddle Club (Lifetime), Richardton Saddle Club and Halliday American Legion Post. Norman served on the Dodge City Council and was Mayor for a time. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 47 years, Madella; five daughters, Dawn (Bruce) Wolf of Dickinson; Jackie (Rich) Bolton of Hazen; Jeri (Perry) Braunagel of Dickinson; Vickie (Wylie) Bice of Killdeer; Debbie (Dean) Rodne of Medora; fourteen grandchildren, Levi and Luke Wolf, Sarah and Sadie Bolton, Jacob, Justine and Brett Braunagel, Wyatt, Lakken and Mason Bice, Rebecca, Zachary (Jessica), Ethan and Hannah Rodne; one great grandchild, Alyssa Buckman; two sisters, Verna Pederson and Arleen Craven both of Dodge. Norman will be reunited with both of his parents; sister, Alice Craven; infant brother Wilbert and infant sister Eloris.
