Funeral Mass for O. J. Nelson will be 11:00 a. m. , Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Farther Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick?s Cemetery. Military Rites will be by the Dickinson Drill Team. Visitation will be from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m. , Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel followed by a Rosary at 7:00 p. m. led by Deacon Ron Keller. O. J. passed away on Friday, December 30, 2005 at the St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson, ND. Oscar J. Nelson was born July 7, 1941 the son of Carl and Tillie (Emmil) Nelson in Dickinson. He grew up and attended schools in Dickinson, graduating from Model High in 1960. O. J. enlisted in the US Navy in the fall of 1960. While in the service, he was married to Helen F. Knolker in June of 1962 in San Diego, CA. O. J. was honorably discharged on January 1, 1966. The family returned to Dickinson where O. J. began working for the Cargill Elevator. He later worked as sales person for Tavis Candy Company of Dickinson for several years. In the 1980?s he started O. J. ?s Lawn Service which he operated until he semi-retired. He continued to work for Dan Porter who over the years became his life-long friend. O. J. enjoyed driving around the outside of the golf course and retrieving golf balls. He especially enjoyed kidding and selling them to his friends who sent them over the fence. He also liked visiting with his family and friends, especially the crew at the St. Anthony?s Club. He will be remembered as a kindhearted man who always was there for his family and friends. O. J. will also be remembered for the flare and zest he brought to the family. He was a member of the Elks Club, St. Anthony?s Club, American Legion Club and the Knights of Columbus Club all of Dickinson. Survivors include, a daughter, Elaine (Dennis) Wolberg, Dickinson, his mother, Tillie Nelson, Dickinson, a granddaughter, Lindsey Wolberg, Dickinson, four brothers: Gordon (Lori) Nelson, Scottsdale, AZ, Vernon (Barbara) Nelson, Dickinson, Dale (Ashley) Nelson, Dickinson and Jim Nelson, Dickinson; a sister, Carla (Randy) Zillich, Dickinson and 10 nieces and nephews: Mandy, Nicole, Amy, Westen, Wyatt, Wade, Jessica, Kristen, Travis and Tyler. His wife, Helen and his father, Carl, preceded him in death.
