Owen O?Neil, 89, Killdeer, died Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a. m. , Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Killdeer, with Fr. Jerry Ruelle, O. S. B. celebrating. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery, rural Killdeer. Visitation will be 2 p. m. to 2:30 p. m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Hill Top Home of Comfort, Killdeer, continuing at 3 p. m. to 9 p. m. , at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, with a vigil at 7 p. m. Owen O?Neil was born June 9, 1916 in Dunn Center, ND to Emmet and Maggie (McGuire) O?Neil. He attended Connolly #2 Country School to the 8th grade. He then started ranching which he continued up until his death. He was the last living rancher that participated in the big lease that trailed livestock from Ft. Berthold Indian Reservation to the railroad shipping point in Dunn Center. Later in life, he enjoyed attending events of his great nieces and nephews. He loved to play cards, enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbors, and telling stories. Owen was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Killdeer. He is survived by: one sister, Maureen Graden, Bismarck; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis O?Neil, Killdeer, Margery Zich, Bismarck, and Kaye O?Neil, Crosby; nieces and nephews, Casey O?Neil, Tracey Dolezal, Charlie O?Neil, Kelly Dukart, Penny O?Neil, Kitty Netzer, Judy Zich, Pat O?Neil, Maureen Schnaidt, Peggy Nygaard, Jane Arntson, Emmet O?Neil, Hugh O?Neil, Skip Sweeny, Norman Graden, Erin Klein, Dale Kraft, Midge Horton, Joan AlAbsy, Ruth Steckler, and numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; three brothers, Pat, Red, and Norman O?Neil, and one niece, Mary O?Neil. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the North Dakota Cowboy Hall of Fame, 1110 College Dr. , Suite 216, Bismarck, ND 58501.
