Paul Gion was born June 2, 1923, on the family homestead in Hettinger County, North Dakota, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Kilzer) Gion. He attended Cherry Butte Country School, graduating from St. Mary’s High School in New England. After graduation, he farmed with his brother, Mike until 1949. On October 5, 1949, Paul and Eunice Dick were united in marriage at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richardton. Following this union, Paul took over the family farm where they raised their sixteen children and made their home until April 2009. At this time, Eunice and Paul retired and moved to Bowman. Good family values and a good work ethic were instilled in the family on the farm. The family was the recipient of the Soil Conservation Reward one year. After a hard days work, Paul was helpful in the caring of his children, helping Eunice in the evenings. He loved little children and the sound of a baby crying would always bring a smile to his face. Paul enjoyed traveling to see his children and traveling across seas. Paul and Eunice were members of St. Henry’s Catholic Church in Regent. Paul enjoyed farming and was faithful in his Catholic faith. He loved to make rosaries in his retirement days. He made one for each of his children and their families and the remaining were sent to Catholic missions. Over the years he created over 7200 rosaries. Paul was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
