A Funeral Mass for Polly Fitterer, 82, of Glen Ullin, will be 10:00 a.m., CDT, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin with Father Jeff Zwack celebrating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Visitation for Polly will be 6:00 p. m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, May 10th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a Rosary & Vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Polly passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Marian Manor Health Care Center in Glen Ullin.
Polly Schafer was born December 13, 1930, one of twelve siblings to Math and Mary (Lang) Schafer. She grew up and lived in the Glen Ullin area most of her life, attending school through the eighth grade. She left home during her teens to work on a farm. On October 24, 1949, Polly was united in marriage to Martin Fitterer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. To this union, Douglas, Wayne, Darcy and Kerry were born. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed gardening and flowers, woodworking and painting, dancing and social outings. Polly enjoyed the outdoors and birds, playing Bonko, going to Mass, watching television, word search puzzle books and visiting with others. Polly loved the holidays, Christmas, Easter (dying dozens of eggs), and Halloween. She was a great cook and baker, the smell of chicken frying on Sunday mornings will be missed. Polly especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marian Manor became home for Polly in December 2012. Polly was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of Christian Mother’s.
Polly is survived by her four children; Douglas, Wayne (Cindy), Darcy and Kerry (Trish) Fitterer all of Glen Ullin; four sisters, Irene (Leo) Erhart of Spearfish, SD, Joan (Ken) Meier of Northfield, MN, Patty (Gordon) Kroh of Glen Ullin and Lillian Dinius of AZ; five grandchildren, Ryan (Traci) Fitterer, Derrick Fitterer, Brooke (Brandon) Miller, Destinee and Landyn Fitterer; and five great-grandchildren, Braxton and Bentley Miller, Kaiden, Payten, and Kynsley Fitterer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mathew and Mary; husband, Martin; three sisters, Arleen Schmautz, Violet Karch, and Claudia Kobilansky; four brothers, Duane, Leo (Curly), Larry and Johnny Schafer.
