Pauline passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson, ND.

Pauline Kaufman was born September 30, 1930 in Lefor, ND, the daughter of John and Mary (Becker) Kaufman. She grew up and attended grade school at St. Elizabeth’s in Lefor, graduating from Lefor High School in 1949. On July 18, 1949, Pauline married John Herold at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. The couple lived, farmed and raised their seven children in the Lefor area. To this union Keith, Ken, Betty Lou, Belinda, Kelly, Bonnie and John Mark were born. Together, Pauline and John literally loved to attend events that involved their children and grandchildren and never missed a wedding, graduation or baptism. Pauline always remembered to send a card along with a hand written note for any event that involved her family and friends. She enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for them. Pauline always had more fun watching her family play cards and games than playing them herself. Pauline was a member of the Homemakers Club, Christian Mothers, and St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Church Choir which she sang in from the time of her youth. Pauline was a member of the Kirwei Dance Group for many years. She will be especially remembered for her malai (Hungarian custard) and schmora.

Pauline is survived by her husband, John, Lefor; three sons, Keith (Debbie) Herold, Lefor, Kelly Herold, Winona, MN, and John Mark (Lori) Herold, Bismarck; three daughters, Betty Lou (Gary) Schell, Stanley, Belinda (Emmett) Lynch, Lester Prairie, MN and Bonnie (Keith) Benz, Bismarck; one sister Betty Barton, Spokane, WA; 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren with one due in October.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Kaufman; son, Ken and brother-in-law, Art Barton
