Peter Kolling

The Funeral Service for Peter Kolling, 86, of Dickinson, will take place at 11:00 a. m. Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dickinson, ND with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Military rites will be presented by the Dickinson Honor Guard. Burial will take place later in the spring. Visitation for Peter will be from 1:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson, with a prayer service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Peter passed away Saturday, March 12, 2011 at his home in Dickinson. Peter Kolling Jr. was born August 18, 1924, to Peter and Anna (Weinschrott) Kolling in Gladstone, ND. He graduated from Dickinson High School in 1943. Following graduation, Peter joined the U. S. Army where he served with the Asiatic Pacific Theatre with the 87th Anti Aircraft Group in India. He was honorably discharged and returned to Dickinson. On September 21, 1943, Peter married Gladys Zander in El Paso, TX. The couple returned to Dickinson and were blessed with nine children: James, Wally, Debi, Carey, Paul, Mark, Roger, Pete and Amy. Peter worked in the retail lumber business from 1943 to 1993. He served with Heaton Lumber Company in Dickinson, Binginheimer Lumber Company in Mandan, ND, and Salzer Lumber Company in Maple Lake, MN. He was also a part-owner of the Hankinson Lumber Company in Hankinson, ND. He later served with Dickinson Lumber Company and Bosch Lumber Company of Dickinson where he retired. Peter loved to hunt, fish, play cards and visit with family and friends. He was a member of the American Legion, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church as well as a life member of Dickinson Elks Lodge #1137. Peter is survived by his wife, Gladys of 67 years; eight children: Wally (Betty) Kolling, Dickinson, ND, Debi (Duane) Wamre, Dickinson, ND, Carey (Fritz) Schwindt, Bismarck, ND, Paul (Sherrie Borchard) Kolling, Stevensville, MT, Mark (Carla) Kolling, Bismarck, ND, Roger (Mardel Forster) Kolling, Bismarck, ND, Pete Kolling, Dillworth, MN, and Amy (Wayne) Jahner, Dickinson, ND; a sister, Ivela (Leo) Jahner, Dickinson, ND; three sisters-in-law, Mary Kolling, Dickinson, ND, Agnes Kolling, Dickinson, ND and Bev Kolling, Dickinson, ND; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, James; four brothers, Joe, Frank, Gene and a brother in infancy; two sisters, Lena Ganzer and Mary Sadowsky. Peter?s family would especially like to thank his caregivers: Correen, Kristin and Lisa. The family suggests memorials to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice or the charity of your choice.
