A funeral Mass for Philip Dolyniuk, 90, of Belfield, will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, October 24, 2014 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Father William Ruelle celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation for Philip will be from 12:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. , Thursday, October 23, 2014 at Stevenson Funeral Home (new location). Visitation will continue from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. , Thursday at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church with a rosary and vigil service taking place at 7:00 p. m. Visitation will continue on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 9:00 a. m. to 10:00 a. m. at the church. Philip passed away Monday, October 20, 2014 at his home in Belfield. Philip Dolyniuk was born May 26, 1924 in Stark County, the son of Wasif (Jim) and Agnes (Myluch) Dolyniuk. He grew up on the family farm and attended Belfield Public Schools. Philip graduated from Belfield High School in 1942. After high school, he attended technical welding school and went to work in the shipyards of Seattle. In May 5, 1943, Philip was drafted into the US Army at Fort Snelling, MN. He served in the South Pacific under General Douglas MacArthur. He also served in the New Guinea and Philippine campaigns. After the Japanese surrendered, Philip spent time in Japan with the occupation forces after WW II ended. Philip was Honorably Discharged on January 5, 1946. Philip returned to Seattle and began working on a dredging barge on the Columbia River. He then moved back to Belfield to attend Dickinson State College where he played football. Philip later returned to the family homestead to assist his family. He also worked on a seismograph crew in several states. On March 27, 1951, Philip and Magdalene Schaff were united in marriage in Belfield. Philip returned to Belfield. To this union seven children were born: Brian, Myron, David, Kelly, Lezlie, Roderic, and Douglas. He worked at Union Carbide and Oilfield Services before becoming manager of the Dickinson Cheese Company. In 1986, Philip retired and continued to make Belfield his home. Philip served as Mayor of Belfield for eight years, was a longtime member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, and was a very active member of the American Legion William C. Blair Post #144; serving as Post Commander for several years. He enjoyed working in the garden, playing pinochole, bird watching and working on the farm. Philip could often be found fixing lawn mowers and cars. Philip was an avid sports fan, and especially loved to follow all sporting and school events that his children and grandchildren were involved in. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. Philip is survived by his wife, Magdalene of Belfield; children Brian (Naomi) of Beach, David (Linda) of Dickinson, Kelly (Mary Lou Hibl) of Belfield, Lezlie (Neil) Paul of Beach, Roderic of Wichita, KS, and Douglas (Brenda) of Dickinson; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Andrew (Ramona) of Glendale, AZ; and sister, Anna Dolyniuk of Belfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Agnes Dolyniuk; son, Myron; grandson, James Dolyniuk; brothers, John, Stephen, Nick, Peter, William and Harry; and sisters, Dorothy Dolyniuk Boedeker, and Mary Rodakowski.
