Phillip passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Philip Jacob Wolf was born January 17, 1918 on the family farm southeast of Dickinson, the son of Jacob and Wilhelmina (Hamann) Wolf. He grew up and attended country school, later attending Model High School in Dickinson. After school, he worked for the Lehiegh Birquetting Plant, southeast of Dickinson, for a few years before enlisting into the US Army Air Corp in 1940. Philip served as an aircraft mechanic during WWII and later led his own squadron, who lovingly referred to him as “Little Whip” because of his stature. He retired as Master Sargent in 1960 and was fortunate to travel and serve in Germany, Japan, the Middle East, England, and state side in SC, TX, CA, and AL. While in Greenville, SC, he met a wonderful young lady, Louise Melissa Pace and they were married at the base Chapel on June 30, 1944. Upon his retirement, he returned to the family farm where he introduced Simmental cattle to the area with the help of a good friend and AI technician, Spud Martin. He sold bulls for many years all over the country and was later part of the Select Five Sale for ten years. Philip started Solar Energy Business, one of the first in the area with the help of his good friend, Ed Wanner. Philip enjoyed leather working, basket weaving, photography, and then gardening in his later years. He also enjoyed family genealogy and scrapbooking. He was an accomplished horseman, and an honest man who told it like it was. He enjoyed music and could play the violin and accordion. Philip was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6308 Grand Knight and a 4th Degree Knight. Philip was a teacher at heart, in his early years in the service and to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his later years. He urged them all to further their education and attend college. Philip was a member of the Elks, American Legion, Airforce Association, and the American Simmental Association.

Philip is survived by his wife Louise; sons, Thurman (Pat) Wolf and Michael (Bernadette) Wolf of Dickinson; daughter-in-law, Linda of NJ; seven grandchildren, Kevin (Jenna) Wolf, Summer (Greg) Melchior, Travis (Melissa) Wolf, Amber (Kris) Wolf-Ringwall, Cody (Jess) Wolf, Dr. Kristal (Curtis) Wolf-Weinstein, and Dakota Wolf; sister-in-law, Linda; and eight great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Wilhelmina; son, Dennis Wolf; brothers, Robert (Alberta) and Donald; sisters, Delores (Herb) Grasser, Eleanor (Cecil) Latterell, Frances Wolf and infant sister Catherine. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society.
