A Funeral Mass for Philomina Hovden, 99, of Dickinson, formerly of Killdeer, will be 10:00 a. m. , Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Killdeer with Father Darnis Selvanayakam celebrating. Burial will follow in the Killdeer Cemetery. Visitation for Philomina will be 3:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Thursday, December 5th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m. Philomina passed away Sunday, December 1, 2013 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson. Philomina Thomas was born July 6, 1914 in Fayette ND, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Immel) Thomas. She grew up on the family farm and attended Fayette Country School. Philomina married Frank Fettig in June 1935. The couple made their home on the farm north of Killdeer where they were blessed with eight children. In 1945, Frank passed away and Philomina moved to Killdeer with her eight children. She worked at the Killdeer Super Valu and Drug Store. In 1964, Philomina married Elsworth Hovden and the family made their home on the Hovden Ranch west of Killdeer. They retired in 1992 and moved to Killdeer, later moving to Evergreen in Dickinson in December 2011. Philomina and Elsworth spent several winters in Arizona. She enjoyed watching and attending the National Finals Rodeo. She also enjoyed her travel with Elsworth, to Alaska, Hawaii, Calgary and the Calgary Stampede, and the fall foliage tours on the east coast. She also enjoyed bowling, crocheting, needle point, playing cards and games with the family. She did not miss a game of Bingo during her stay at Evergreen. She always looked forward to the 4th of July family gatherings. Her family was her life and she cherished every minute spent with them. Her grandkids will miss her no-bake chocolate cookies. Philomina is survived by her husband, Elsworth; son, Gerald (Maryann) Fettig of Dickinson; daughters, Angeline Stalma of Las Vegas, NV, Janet (Ralph) Gornick of Cottage Grove, MN, and Lenore Hale of Tucson, AZ; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Robert Brosky; and daughter-in-law, Elaine Fettig, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Frank Fettig; daughters, Arlene Brosky, Evelyn Fettig, Kathleen Fettig; son, Donald Fettig; brothers, Joseph, Frank, Ralph and John Thomas, Joseph in infancy; sisters, Rose Schmidt, Stella Hartman and Jean Schepper; and grandson, David Stalma.
