Funeral Services for Russell “Fay” Beach, 88, of Baker, will be 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT. Burial will take place at Bonnievale Cemetery in Baker, MT. Visitation will take place from 5 to 7 p. m. , Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. Fay passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016 at his home in Baker, MT. He was born June 8, 1927 at the family home on the McFarland Place located about 3 and half miles southwest of Ollie, MT the fourth son of Arnold and Lois Bowen Beach’s six sons. Fay grew up in the Ollie community graduating from Ollie High School in 1945. In 1946 he enlisted in the United States Army; Headquarters Company; 1st Battalion; 32nd Infantry Regiment; 7th Infantry Division serving as radio operator, low speed in Eujong-Bu, Korea. He was Honorably Discharged April 7th, 1948 receiving a World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan. When Fay returned from the service he and his brother, Delane, Clinton Bryson and several neighbors went “south” custom combining for five years. October 12, 1952 Fay married Joan Hartse at Glendive. They owned and operated the Carlyle Grocery Store until 1957 when they started farming. For the next twenty years they farmed, ranched and raised their six children. In 1977 they bought the Corner Bar and operated it until the spring of 1984. For the next few years they followed the SE Horse Racing Association circuit racing in MN, MO, WY and MT. After they sold their horses Fay got a CDL and drove over-the-road with his son, Jack, hauling flat bed freight all over the United States. The next few years he enjoyed helping Murril with farming, refurbishing farm equipment and mechanical work along with spoiling his pets Muffy, Groucho, Tommy and Duncan. Fay was a relief mail carrier out of the Carlyle Post Office, served on the Carlyle School Board, Carlyle Elevator Board, Fallon County Soil Conservation Board and helped organize Horse Creek Grazing Association serving on the Board of Directors for several years. Since 2010, he was the Chief Executive Armchair Consultant for Black Gold Contractors, LLC. Fay was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 35, VFW at Ekalaka and was a volunteer driver for the DAV van going to Ft. Meade, Sturgis, SD on a regular basis. Fay lived an active full life. His greatest joy has been watching their six children, 12 grandchildren and 28 Gr-8 grandchildren grow up and being involved in their lives. Survivors include his wife of 63 plus years, Joan; daughter-in law, Adel Beach of Laurel, MT; son, Jack (Joy) of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Rena (Mike) Schaefbauer of Arnegard, ND; Jean (Casey) Rost of Baker, MT; son-in-law, John (Donna) Crow of Rhame, ND and son, Rob of Helena, MT. Eleven grandchildren: Mischele (Dave) Miller, Karelyn and Dayna; Greg Beach all of Laurel, MT; Shonna Hill, Mackenzie Shields-Beach and Madeline Beach of Fullerton, CA; Joni (Adam) Baker, Lila, Owen and Evan of Anderson, CA; Cristin (Colin) Gordon, Caitlin and Callum of West Seattle, WA; Bill (Katie Severson) Schaefbauer of Arnegard, ND, Jazmin of Savage, MN; Robert Schaefbauer, Riley of Inver Grove Heights, MN; Angie (Scott) Rabbitt, Aiden, Allanna, Sadie and Sylvia; Jeremy (Tina) Rost, Will and Zander all of Baker, MT; Trisha (Willie) Schweiger, Jackson, Liam and Adeline of Waupun, WI; Corena (Scott) Clutter, Gabe, Violet and John of Belton, MO; Mike (Andrea) Crow, Skylar, Keaton, Marti Jo and Jett of Gladstone, ND; sisters-in-law, Lenore and Arleen Beach. Fay was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; Dwight, Cliff, Dick, Bobby and Delane; two sisters-in-law; Delores and Phyllis; children, Donnie and Connie (Crow); a grandson, Paul Beach and a Gr-8 granddaughter Katelynn Rost.
