Rae Breen Couture was born February 2, 1930, in Baker, Montana, the youngest child of Thomas Breen and Cecil Clark Breen. She had nine brothers and sisters. Her family called her Sally from the time she was a small child. That name stayed with her for most of her adult life. Everyone who knew her, family and friends, knew her as Sally.
Sally grew up in the Baker-Miles City area and eventually moved to Sheridan, Wyoming. There she met and married Frank Raymond Hahn. From this marriage, one child was born: Jeannie Marie. Later, Sally met and married Melvin Lawrence Couture. She and Mel lived at Tiber Dam, Montana, Chester, Montana, moved to Great Falls, Montana and then finally to Billings, Montana, where they remained for the rest of their lives. During her marriage to Mel, two children were born: Wayne Lawrence and Linda Kay. Sally was a wonderful Mom and wife. She loved her family and took great care to make sure that every member in her family had all that they needed.
Sally was a very talented woman. One of her greatest talents was crocheting. She made table clothes, doilies, and a variety of other items. Her work was intricate and very beautiful. If she missed a stitch or made an error, she would go back and do it over until it was perfect. Each piece she completed was a labor of love.
Sally worked many different jobs during her life. She worked as a hotel maid, a waitress, a dishwasher….whatever kind of work came her way. Even working full time, she maintained a beautiful home.
In her later years, Sally lived in Walla Walla, Washington and Spokane, Washington, finally settling back in Billings, Montana. In Billings, she maintained a beautiful yard and had a strawberry patch in her back yard. As years passed, she could no longer take care of a large home and moved into a senior living apartment. She made many friends while she lived there, and also kept in touch with friends she had made in Spokane. If you were her friend, she cherished that friendship and would do all she could to keep it. She had a great love for music. She sang along with the radio, and played her CD’s all the time. She especially liked the “Oldies” show that was on every Saturday morning, and she also loved Irish singer, Daniel O’Donnell. She had most of his CD’s and also watched him when he had shows on PBS. She enjoyed going to the casino and playing keno. Occasionally she won, but for the most part, the machines did!
Sally leaves behind her children, Jeannie Robinson (Doug), Wayne Couture (Elaine) and Linda Yager (Henry); grandchildren Anna and Dennis Terry, Stacy Coyle and Jennifer Thaw, Traci Couture and Kristin Couture. She also leaves behind great grandchildren Justin, Ryan, Amber, Sierra, Matthew, Alex, Andrew and Shannon. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, all of her siblings, and a granddaughter, Jennifer Terry.
She will be greatly missed. We love you Mom. Rest in peace.
