Funeral Services for LaVerna Rae Heaps, 65, of Baker, MT will be 10:00 a. m. Thursday, May 8. 2008, at the Baker Community Church with Rev Mark D. Arnold officiating. Interment will follow in Bonnievale Cemetery at Baker. Visitation will be 12 noon to 3:00 p. m. on Wednesday, May 7th at Stevenson Funeral Home, and 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. at the Baker Community Church with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p. m. , and continue one hour prior to the service on Thursday. Rae passed away on Thursday, May 1, 2008 at Fallon Medical Complex Nursing Home in Baker, MT. LaVerna Rae Heaps was born on July 11, 1942 in Yakama, WA, a daughter of Donald & Evelyn (Bowen) Scott. At a young age, Rae and her family moved to the Ollie Community in northeastern Fallon County. Rae attended grade school in Ollie. At the age of 7, Rae moved to Baker, where she was adopted by her Aunt and Uncle, Bryce ?Bud? and Valdene Bowen. Rae attended Baker schools, graduating in 1960. After graduation, Rae attended Rocky College in Billings, MT where she earned a degree in Teaching. Rae taught school for one year in Forrest Grove, OR, and returned to Baker the following year where she taught school. Rae met Max Lorbiecke, and the two where married on July 19, 1965. To this union Brent was born. After their marriage, Rae and Max moved to Wyoming, where they lived in various towns. Rae did substitute teaching as well as being a fulltime mother and homemaker. In 1972, Rae and Max moved to the Lorbiecke ranch west of Carlyle, MT. The two later divorced in 1981. Rae met Eugene Heaps, and the two were married on August 18, 1984 in Baker, MT. Rae continued to make Baker her home. Rae loved church, and was very active in the Baker Community Church, and was a member of the Beaver Valley Homemakers Club. She enjoyed cooking, working with flowers, quilting and teaching Sunday school. Her greatest love in life was for her husband, children and grandchildren. Rae is survived by her husband, Eugene Heaps, Baker, MT; her son, Brent (Tamra) Lorbiecke, Baker, MT. ; three brothers, Craig Bowen, Phoenix, AZ, Rick Bowen, Van Bury, CT and Donald Cheney, Avoca, IA; three sisters, Tana Scott, Laurel, MT, Nancy Scott, Houston, TX and Bernitta Jacobsen-Sweetman, Council Bluffs, IA; two grandchildren, Donovan Lorbiecke and Colin Lorbiecke; nine step-grandchildren, Bill Hoff, Nick Hoff, Kristine Heaps, Jessica Heaps, Lacey Heaps, Mellissa Brown, Mathew Brown, Isabella Heaps and Stephanie Heaps and one step-great-grandson, Jakob Bueno. Rae is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Evelyn, her adopted parents, Bud and Veldene, her brother, Gerald Buffington and her sister Sharma Scott. Arrangements are under the care of Stevenson Funeral Home of Baker, MT.
