Funeral service for Ragna Hamilton, 95, of Killdeer, will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Killdeer with Pastor Joel Sauerwein officiating. Burial will be in Whetstone Cemetery.
Visitation for Ragna will be from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, October 3, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer with a prayer service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Ragna passed away Friday, September 30, 2011 at Hill Top Home of Comfort. Ragna Ayleen Sloan was born April 10, 1916 in Dunn County, the daughter of Jorgen and Alma (Brekke) Sloan. She grew up and attended country school in Dunn County. In July of 1932, Ragna was confirmed by Rev. Fosmarck at Dovre Evangelical Lutheran Church in Dunn County, North Dakota. As a young girl, Ragna worked on her parents’ farm and ranch. On January 31, 1935, Ragna married Ernest Hamilton at the Normanna Lutheran Church in Dunn Center. To this union three children were born: Delores, Betty and Ernie. Together they raised their family and farmed and ranched west of Killdeer. In 1990, Ragna moved into Killdeer where she made her home. In 2006, she moved into Hill Top Home of Comfort. Ragna enjoyed gardening, taking care of her flowers, doing crafts, crocheting and quilting. Many of her quilts are cherished by her family to this day. Ragna was a great cook, fantastic baker and was well known for her donuts. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Whetstone Homemakers.
Ragna is survived by her son Ernie Hamilton of Killdeer; daughters, Delores Steckler-Thompson of Dickinson and Betty Fettig of Killdeer; one brother, Clyde Sloan of Oregon; ten grandchildren, Bart (Elaine) Steckler, Barry Steckler, Mitch (Beth) Steckler, Craig (Cyndi) Steckler, Deanna (Jerry) McGovern, Natalie Lazarakis, Jeff Fettig, Paula Fettig, Colin (Janeen) Fettig and Danielle Hamiton and eleven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jorgen and Alma Sloan; husband, Ernest Hamilton; two sons-in-law, Ray Steckler and Clemens Fettig; and one infant grandson, Joseph Fettig.
