Randy passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at Fallon Medical Complex ER in Baker, MT. Randy was born on February 18, 1950 in Ekalaka, MT, to Walter J. & Olethia (Tiedemann) Martens. His family moved to Baker in 1959, where he attended school. Years later he met Shirley Kruger, the love of his life and deepest companion. They were married on November 21, 1968 and were blessed with four wonderful children whom they raised in Baker. Randy started working on the rigs at 15 years of age. He worked most of his career in the Williston Basin, but went as far north as Alaska and as far south as Louisiana. He took great pride in his work and spent his last days as a consultant on Cyclone Rig 22. Over his 43-year career in the oilfield industry, Randy touched and left his mark on the many individuals who crossed his path, most of whom he considered to be friends. Today, his legacy lives on through his wife and best friend of 40 years, Shirley; his children: Sonya (Brian) Davis of Baker; Heidi (Jasen) Wyrick of Baker; Nicole (Jacobe Jonovich-Fiance) Martens of Gilbert, AZ and Waylin (Lisa) Martens of Dickinson, ND; his grandchildren: Shanay, Chace, Braylea, Cauy, & Taiklyn Wyrick, and Marley & Keller Martens. He is also survived by his sister, Monty Lou (Ben) Slagter of Baker MT, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Randy was preceded in death by his father, Walter Martens, his mother, Lete Johnson, stepfather, Allen Johnson, and brother, Gene Martens.
