Ralph was called home by his heavenly father on Friday, June 23, 2017 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.
Raphael Jr. “Ralph” Brinster was the first born son to Raphael Sr. and Katherine (Decker) Brinster on November 8, 1922 in rural New England. During the school year, Ralph lived with his grandparents in New England until making his First Communion in the second grade. He then moved with his parents and siblings to the Gaylord Community about 13 miles south of Belfield. He worked on the family farm while continuing his education at a country school until graduating from the eighth grade. During the depression, Ralph enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Core (CCC’s) and sent the majority of his paycheck home to help his family.
On April 8, 1947, Raphael married the love of his life, Dorothy Huschka, the daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Miller) Huschka. Together the couple moved 15 miles south of Belfield, and purchased a farm in the Gaylord community. They lived and worked hard on the farm until 1989 when they retired and moved to Dickinson.
Ralph was active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church until its closing. He was also a member of St. Bernards Catholic Church in Belfield, St. Pius Verein in Schefield, and Queen of Peace in Dickinson.
Ralph loved the outdoors and spent much of his retired life fishing, gardening, and caring for his fruit trees. He enjoyed working and made beautiful items such as; bird houses, dish cabinets for his granddaughters, and garages for his grandsons. He also made holiday decoration and flower stands that looked like rocking chairs all without the use of a pattern. Ralph also enjoyed music and dancing when he was able.
Raphael is survived by his wife; Dorothy; son, Jerry (Darlene) Brinster of Glendive, MT; daughters, Carol (Dave) Goetz of Broken Arrow, OK., Linda (Donald) Dukart of TX., Cindy of Dickinson; brother, Leslie Brinster; sisters; Anna Mary Frank, Leona (Bernard) Selinger; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raphael Sr. and Katherine (Decker) Brinster; two sons in infancy; brothers, Eugene, Robert and Finian; sisters, Barbara, Amelia, Cecilia, Adeline; and twin infant great-granddaughters, Isabella and Arianna.
