A Funeral Mass for Ray Wock, 79, of South Heart, will be 10:00 a. m. , Saturday, December 7, 2013 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in South Heart with Father Jadyn Nelson celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visitation for Ray will be 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Friday, December 6th at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil service being held at 7:00 p. m.
Ray passed away Saturday, November 30, 2013 after a short battle with cancer, with his family by his side, at his daughter and son-in-laws home in Vancouver, WA.
Ray was born September 11, 1934 in Dickinson, the son of Christ & Emma (Mischel) Wock . He was raised and educated in the Dickinson area. He became involved in farming with his father and worked at Schnell’s Livestock. On December 12, 1955, Ray married his true love, Garnet Burwick in Dickinson. From this loving union, five children were born. Ray went to work full-time for Schnell’s Livestock until 1958. He then worked for Dakota Clay making tile and later became a trucker for them, hauling tile until 1960. Ray then started his own business, Ray Wock Trucking. He hauled milk from farmers to Queen City Dairy and he also hauled cattle and grain. Ray did some landscaping work in the Dickinson area and he enjoyed leather carving in his younger years. He later sold his trucking business to start farming and ranching in the fall of 1966. He raised prize winning Hereford cattle at the N+ Ranch, south of Belfield until 1972. Ray continued to manage various ranches, including a Buffalo Ranch in McLaughlin SD which had 1400 head of buffalo and 1000 head of cattle. He always said working with buffalo was the greatest experience of his career. Ray always took great pride in building and designing the ranches he managed. He was an excellent welder and fabricator and could fix almost anything. Ray was always willing to help anyone in need and he always made everyone feel cared about. In 1996, Ray & Garnet started G&R Janitorial business in Gillette, WY where they stayed until they retired to South Heart, ND in 2005. In retirement, Ray discovered the joy of spending time with his great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, family reunions and playing solitaire every morning, wearing out many decks of cards, as well as fly swatters. Ray & Garnet worked side-by-side their entire life. They always made sure every yard was a showplace and every house was a home for their family. Ray’s greatest love was his wife Garnet of 58 years and his family. Above all, family was very important and he was so proud of them all. He demonstrated his love without having to say much and simply sharing his giving heart. Ray was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Eagles Club, Beef Country Riders, South Heart Saddle Club, ND Stockman’s Association, ND Trucker Association and the Dickinson Snowmobile Club.
Ray is survived by his wife, Garnet; daughters, Dixie (Glenn) Wagner of South Heart, Chris (Thomas) Splichal of South Heart, Kellie (Michael) Higgason of Vancouver, WA and Shellie (Lance) Dickson of Metaline Falls, WA; twelve grandchildren, Joshua (Lori) Wagner, Jeremiah Wagner, Lindzee (Cory) Schneider, Jarred Wagner, Tashina (Josh) Sharp, Tricia (Deven) Rittal, Tessa Splichal and fiancé Robby Ridl, Jeffrey (Sarah) Higgason, Kevin (Katrina) Higgason, Casey Higgason, Garrett Dickson, Sarrah Dickson; twelve great grandchildren, Channing, Jordan, and Addison Wagner, Joey Wagner and Ellie Wagner-Entzel, Mackenzee and Collin Schneider, Mia Sharp, Rebecca and Emberly Rittal, Brooklyn Splichal, Maddlynn Ridl; three sisters, Evelyn (Martin) Haag of Dickinson, Marilynne Hill of Eagle, ID and Shirley (Kenny) Sample of Dickinson; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Ray is preceded in death by his precious son, Casey Wock; parents, Christ and Emma Wock, parents- in-law, Milo and Rosie Burwick; brother and sister- in-law, John and Doris Wock; brothers- in-law, Harold Hill and Gerald Burwick; and twin nieces.
