Ray passed away Sunday, April 19, 2009 at St. Benedict?s Health Center in Dickinson with his family by his side. Ray was born to John and Anna (Anheluk) Gregory, Gorham, ND, on July 12, 1932. He attended country school in the Gorham/Fairfield area and later high school at Model High in Dickinson. On June 8, 1953 he married Joanne Seiler at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dickinson. They made their home in Dickinson. Ray and Joanne had five children: Kathy (Arne) Graff, Moorhead, MN, Arnie (Jane) Gregory, Edina, MN, Becky (Barry) Mosbrucker, Eagan, MN, Carolyn (Steve) Irsfeld, Dickinson, ND, and Mike Gregory, Bismarck, ND. They devoted their lives to their children. Ray was a wonderful father and none worked harder for his family. His greatest joy was his 10 grandchildren: Erika and John Graff, Ali and Jack and Anna Gregory, Nathan and Samantha Mosbrucker, and Molly and Andrea and Grace Irsfeld. No one could extract a smile or a protective eye from him as quickly as they could, although neither were ever hard to get from him. Ray was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church since its inception where he gave of himself as a volunteer. He always took pride in working hard. Ray worked on the railroad for 4 years until becoming employed by Midwest Motor Express for 26 years delivering freight to businesses in western North Dakota and eastern Montana. His routes wound throughout the outlying towns introducing to his life many special people who would many times cross his path in later years and we enjoyed hearing about how he had delivered to their family store. Ray retired from driving and moved into sales for Barber Transportation and later as a terminal manager when Barber became Hyman Freightways. During his time as manager he relocated to Bismarck for two years before returning to Dickinson. During Ray?s retirement years he delivered medications for his son-in-law at Irsfeld Pharmacy and also assisted many funerals with Stevenson Funeral Home. He enjoyed serving in these capacities and held close to his heart those who were suffering. Ray fully retired when his illness took hold. He spent his time with his family, enjoying yard work, and cheering for the Minnesota Twins. In 2005 Ray was diagnosed with a terminal illness and, after 52 years of marriage, his wife, Joanne, died suddenly. During this time Ray took great comfort in the time he spent at West River Community Center and at St. Patrick Parish in the presence of the Most Blessed Sacrament. He briefly moved to Bloomington, MN before returning to Dickinson to reside at St. Benedict?s. Ray was also a member of the Dickinson Elks Lodge, Knights of Columbus and a past member of the 4th Degree. Ray is survived by two sons, Arnie (Jane) Gregory, Edina, MN and Michael Gregory, Bismarck, ND; three daughters, Kathy (Arnie) Graff, Moorhead, MN, Becky (Barry) Mosbrucker, Eagan, MN and Carolyn (Steve) Irsfield, Dickinson, ND; 10 grandchildren; Erika Graff, John Graff, Nate Mosbrucker, Ali Gregory, Molly Irsfeld, Sam Mosbrucker, Adnrea Irsfeld, Grace Irsfeld, Jack Gregory and Anna Gregory; a sister, Armella (Paul) Chruszch, Belfield, sister-in-law JoAnn Gregory, Chandler, AZ and their children. He was preceded in death by his wife Joanne, his parents, and his brother Laverne. Memorials have been selected for St. Benedict?s Health Center, Hartland Hospice or the Joanne Gregory Memorial Fund for Dickinson Catholic Schools.
