A funeral Mass for Raymond Schaff, 73, of Dickinson, will be 2:00 p. m. , Monday, May 9, 2011 at St. Joseph?s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Fr. Keith Streifel celebrating. Burial will take place at 12:00 p. m. CDT, Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan,Visitation for Raymond will be 12:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. Sunday, May 8, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson with a Rosary and Vigil Service being held at 7:00 p. m. Raymond passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Rochester Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Raymond George Schaff was born February 26, 1938 in Dickinson, the son of Frank and Matilda (Hirsch) Schaff. He grew up in Dickinson and graduated from St. Joseph?s School. On January 6, 1956, Ray enlisted in the United States Army and served his country for four years. Ray was honorably discharged on January 5, 1960. At that time, he returned to Dickinson where he met the love of his life, Linda Privratsky. They were united in marriage on June 10, 1964 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. To this union four children were born, Rhonda, RaeLynn, Greg and Gary. Ray worked construction, operating heavy equipment all of his life. He worked for Industrial Builders, Clairmont Construction, American Contracting and Martin Construction. Ray worked through the 2010 season. He was always told to find a hobby and retire in which he would comment ?I have a hobby and I get paid for it. ? Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting, making sausage and winter vacations to Denver and Arizona. He especially enjoyed his children and grandchildren. A highlight for Ray was the Alaskan trip he made with his entire family in 2010. Raymond was a member of St. Joseph?s Catholic Church, Eagles Club, and St. Anthony Club. Raymond is survived by his wife Linda; two sons, Greg (Bobbi) Schaff of Aurora, CO and Gary (Cheri Bachmeier) Schaff of New Hradec; two daughters, Rhonda Schaff of Mandan and RaeLynn (fianc?e Dennis Gervers) Droog of Mandan; three brothers, Bob (Jeri) Schaff of Columbus, TX, Donald (Chinda) Schaff of Dickinson and Bill (Margaret) Schaff of Seattle, WA; five sisters, Eleanor Kilwein of New England, Laura Carter of Camp Verde, AZ, Joan (Ivo) Schoch of Schefield, Bernie (Seb) Dukart of Dickinson and Mary Jean Schaff of Camp Verde, AZ; and four grandchildren, Brent Droog, Haley Droog, Kaylee Schaff and Krista Schaff. He was preceded in death by parents, Frank and Matilda and a sister Isabelle Peters.
