Funeral Service for Raymond E. Zander, 91, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. , Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Lisa Lewton officiating. Internment will be in the Dickinson Mausoleum. Visitation for Raymond will be from 12:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. , Monday, March 14, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Dickinson with a Family and Friends Service being held at 7:00 p. m. in the Chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home. Raymond passed away March 10, 2011 at St. Lukes Home in Dickinson. Raymond Edward Zander was born April 4, 1919 in Dickinson, the son of Albert and Emma (Diers) Zander. He grew up on the family farm near Lefor and attended country grade school. He graduated from Model High School in Dickinson in 1937 and later attended Hanson Mechanical Trade School in Fargo. On September 23, 1945, Raymond married Doris Mae Olson in Dickinson. Together, they raised their family of four daughters; Bonita Rae, Sherry Linn, Eva Lee and Ruth Ann. Raymond worked as a ranch hand for a year in Great Falls, MT prior to coming back to work on the family farm near Lefor until 1957. Raymond moved his family to Regent, ND in 1958 where he worked for the Farmers Union Oil Co. and Elevator until 1963. They relocated to Dickinson where Raymond worked for Steffes Church Furniture, the Water Treatment Plant, St. John Lutheran Church as a custodian as well a bus driver for the Dickinson Public Schools until his retirement in 1990. From 1972-1975, Raymond owned and operated a motel in Belfield, ND. Raymond was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Elks, various bowling leagues and card clubs at the Eagles and St. Anthony Clubs. He enjoyed playing cards, bowling, horseshoes, old time movies, dancing and playing the harmonica. Ray especially enjoyed the afternoons of bingo at Hawks Point where he resided the last four years. Raymond is survived by his wife, Doris, Dickinson; four daughters: Bonnie (Don) Ficek, Dickinson; Sherry (Lloyd) Tysse, Williston; Eva Lee Zander, Grand Forks and Ruth (Brian) Greene of Dickinson; one sister, Louise (Bus) Sperline, Spokane, WA; two sisters-in-law, Valborg ?Vala? Zander, Bismarck and Iva Zander, Clovis, CA; five granddaughters: Dawn Rae (Allen) Bauman, Natchitoches, LA; Kari (Scott) Uhl, Des Moines, IA; Tara (Christopher) LaRowe, Madison, WI; Amber (Jeff) Lippert, Cottage Grove, MN; Heather (Greg) Kasowski, Columbia, SC; two grandsons, Alex Zander Greene, Minneapolis, MN and Aric Greene, Dickinson; and five great-grandchildren: Jack and Eva Rae LaRowe, Ali and Ava Lippert and Carson Uhl. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Emma Zander; four brothers, Adelbert Zander, Roland Zander, Austin Zander and Earl Zander; two sisters-in-law, Louise Zander and Margit Zander; one great-granddaughter, Maelee Linn Kasowksi and three nephews, Kenny Zander, Craig Sperline and Mark Sperline,In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions for research for a cure for Alzheimers to the Alzheimers Association, to the St. John Lutheran Trust Fund or the charity of your choice.
