Private Funeral Services for Renate Young, 69, of Dickinson, ND, will take place this week. Burial will be in the St. Joseph?s Cemetery in Dickinson. Renate passed away Monday, July 19, 2010, at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. Renate Young was born on May 31, 1941, to Fritz and Helen (Bernhardt) Sturmer in Heidelberg, Germany. She grew up and attended schools in Heidelberg. After graduating from high school, Renate met her husband, James, who was stationed in Germany. They were united in marriage on February 12, 1959, in Heidelberg, Germany. To this union, four children were born: Maria, Donald, Frank and Penny. Throughout James? career in the Army, they traveled and were stationed in many different countries and bases. After James? retirement, they moved to Dickinson, ND, to be closer to family and have made it their home since. Renate enjoyed looking for bargains and would hit the weekend garage sales whenever possible. She enjoyed collecting porcelain dolls. Renate especially loved Christmas time with all of the decorations and events. Above all, she loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Renate is survived by her husband of 52 years, James, Dickinson, ND; three children, Maria Nichols, Penny Young, and Frank (Teresa) Young, all of Dickinson, ND; five grandchildren, Maranda (Brien) Gentry, Joshua Nichols, Devin Young, Christopher Young, and Donnie Young, all of Dickinson, ND; eight great-grandchildren, Ashton, Brayton, Lillyaunna, Kambrie, Malachia, Zacharia, Gabrielle, and Isaic; one sister, Monica (Eugene) Kudrna, Dickinson, ND; two nieces, Mary (Jeff) Duttenhefer and Loretta (Troy) Heidt, both of Dickinson, ND; and a great-nephew, Michael. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald; one sister, Ursula Sturmer; and three grandchildren, Bryanna, Brandyn, and Lacey. Renate?s family wishes to say thank you to all of their family and friends for their support during this difficult time. They also wish to extend a special thank you to the ICU doctors, nursing staff, and aides at St. Joseph?s Hospital, all staff at Home Health Care, and the Dickinson Ambulance Service for their wonderful care of their mom.
