Reuben Treiber, 79, Hebron, passed away April 15, 2008, at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck ND, with his family by his side, after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a. m. CDT Saturday, April 19th at St. John’s Church, 624 Church Avenue in Hebron, ND, with the Rev. Gaylund Olson officiating. Burial will be in St. Johns Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Friday at 3:00 PM at the Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. Visiation will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Reuben was born August 11, 1928, at Hebron, the son of Gustav and Gertrude (Glass) Treiber. He was raised on the family farm 2 1/2 miles west of Hebron. Reuben attended rural elementary school and graduated from Hebron High School in 1945. He then attended and graduated from State Normal Industrial College at Ellendale ND. After college Reuben returned to the family farm where he and his father farmed and raised Purebred Shorthorn cattle. On Nov. 27 1964, Reuben was united in marriage to Evangeline Weigum at Zion Lutheran Church, Beulah, ND. They had a truly blessed marriage. Together, as best friends, they farmed side by side and raised their family. During his farming years he received many Stark County Soil Conservation Awards. Reuben donated his time and knowledge to various boards. He is a lifetime member of the Hebron Rural Fire Department, serving as president for twenty eight years. He served as president for the Hebron-Glen Ullin Farmers Union Oil Company for 15 years. Reuben also served as director on the M&M Transport and Morton County Farmers Union Board. He served as president for the Hebron-Glen Ullin Farmers Union Local for many years and served on the St. John’s Church Council as secretary. Reuben had a love for music. He was the leader of a five piece band called the Reuben Treiber Orchestra in which he played accordion. Throughout the years they played for many barn dances and various events. Reuben’s life was his family and his farm. He will be greatly missed. Grateful for having shared in his life are his wife of 43 years, Evangeline, Hebron; one son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Sandy Treiber, Bismarck; one daughter, Denise Treiber, Hazen; and his grandchildren: Dawson and Allyson Treiber and Brandon Simonieg; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Virginia and Eugene Veil and Vivian and Roy Bauer, all of Bismarck; two sisters-in-law, Delfine Wiedrich and Celestine (Weigum) Hafner, all of Beulah, one brother-in-law, Arthur Flemmer, Bismarck; and many nieces and nephews. Reuben was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Delbert Purpus; one brother, William; one sister-in-law, Lucille Flemmer; two brothers-in-law, Floyd Weigum and Leo Wiedrich.
