His younger years were spent working on the farm with his brothers. They did a lot of hard work but always found time to get into trouble. Rex always loved to reminisce and tell the stories of the stunts and pranks he and his brothers enjoyed. He attended school in Hebron and Glen Ullin where he always took pride in his perfect attendance record. He never missed a day of school. That was his hardcore work ethic already showing. He met his future wife Diane Hausauer in 1971. They married on October 6, 1973 at St. John?s United Church of Christ in Hebron, ND. During his youth he was in the amatuer rodeo. He rode cows and bareback for a short time and won a few purses doing so. The largest purse he won was $80 the Sunday before his daughter was born. On September 17, 1974 Rex and Diane welcomed Bobbi Jo into the world. Rex started working for Portney Construction then began trucking in June of 1975 for Hoovestal Trucking, driving truck over 48 states and Canada. He hauled everything from beer to bees. Rex later moved his family to Dickinson. On August 25, 1981 Rusty Allen was born. Rex loved spending time with his two grandchildren Alec and Lily Jo. He taught them many things like how to a give a good ?ooo ahhh? and a squeezee! He also loved to make coozy coo. During Rex?s life he enjoyed many activities. He was an avid bowler and won many trophies and prizes. Before moving to Minnesota he bowled with his family, wife, daughter, son-in-law and son on a league. He also bowled on the men?s league. He loved to fix things. The man could build or make anything. And because he was such a perfectionist, you always knew that the quality would be there. Rex was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Dickinson for over 25 years. He also belonged to the Broken Arrow Saddle Club. He was honored with many awards for his trucking skills. Rex won Safety Driver of the Year, Fuel Saver Award and Driver of the Year while working for TMI in Dickinson. He always went the extra mile when it came to work, family and friends. In 1999 Rex moved to Minnesota where he started working for Major Transport. While working for Major he held many important positions. Rex helped start the company working as a dispatcher, then the Operations Manager, Equipment Operator and most recently was promoted to Driver Recruiter. The office staff at Major loved him so much. When he fell ill he received many, many get well cards and wishes. Everyday when he got the mail he would read each and every card. He looked forward to receiving these cards. They always boosted his spirit. He would read them and comment, ?That is a really nice card? ?I have such good friends. ?Rex was so well respected at Major that he had his own designated chair in the break room to watch Days of Our Lives every day. He started watching by himself, then slowly everyone joined him at noon to see what was happening to John, Marlena, Jack, Jennifer, Bo and Hope. Rex enjoyed spending his time in his boat on the lake fishing. He loved to dance and had a zest for life. You could usually find Rex and Diane at the Red Fox on Friday night for ribs and a twirl around the dance floor. He always made sure to give the waitresses a hard time. Rex never met a stranger. He loved to visit and tell jokes. In some way he touched every person that he met. He had some sort of connection and they always remembered him for the good, honest, hard-working man that he was. He was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Rex is survived by his wife of 32 years Diane, one daughter Bobbi Birkholz (Ron), one son Rusty.
