He attended Killdeer Elementary School, Killdeer High School and later went on to be a truck driver for Farmers Union in Killdeer. Richard married Esther Marquart on November 22, 1949, in Dodge, ND. Starting as a lineman for Consolidated Telephone Cooperative in 1957, Dick retired as Plant Manager in 1989. Richard was a true family man. He frequently shared how he looked forward to his early morning coffee with his sister Shirley. Nothing made Richard happier than being surrounded by his daughters and their families. The only greater love in his life was the love for his beloved wife, Esther whom he cherished throughout their 53 years of marriage and for the rest of his days. He always enjoyed the simple things in life: playing cards, going to casinos, afternoon coffee at the donut hole, love for animals, watching NASCAR races, crafts, woodworking and collecting little treasures. Richard was a member of and served as the secretary on the ND Safety Council, ND Society of Safety Management, Prairie States Plant Managers Association, Life Member of the Elks Lodge, German Hungarian, St. Anthony Club, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church. Richard is survived by: four daughters, Darry Powers, Poway, CA, Sherri (Tim) Marquart, Las Vegas, NV, Carley (Dr. David) Strand, Sioux Falls, SD, and Dickie Jo (Arlen) Kubas, South Heart, ND; one sister, Shirley (Adam) Privratsky, Dickinson, ND; six grandchildren; two step-granddaughters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
