Richard Duncan

A funeral service for Richard Duncan, 69, of New Salem, ND, will be 10:30 a.m. CDT, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Peace Church in New Salem, with Pastor Joshua Eddy officiating.  Burial will take place in Peace Cemetery.


A prayer service for Rick will take place at 7:00 p.m. CDT, Friday, November 16, 2018 at Peace Church.  Visitation will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. CDT, Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the church.


Rick passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem.


Richard Dell Duncan was born November 10, 1949 in Bismarck, ND, the son of Richard Floyd and Gladys (Rask) Duncan.  He grew up and attended country school at Beaver Valley #1 through the eighth grade.  Rick went on to attend New Salem High school; graduating with the class of 1967.  After high school, Rick attended NDSU earning a degree in agricultural business in 1971.  He returned to New Salem where he met his first love, Carol Kuhn.  The couple was united in marriage on October 6, 1972 in New Salem.  To this union three children were born: Richard Wayne, Amanda Faye and Matthew Lee.  Together, the family farmed and ranched southeast of New Salem for 46 years.


Rick had a great passion for his land and being on the tractor.  Despite being ill, he was still combining and stacking bales this fall.  His greatest love was for his family and together they enjoyed traveling and watching sporting events.  He was a true Bison fan; always rooting for his alma mater.  Rick was an active member of the Peace Church in New Salem where he served on the Church Council, and was a member of the Elm Crest Manor Board of Directors.


Rick’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers at Elm Crest Manor for their wonderful care and help.


Rick is survived by his wife, Carol; sons, Richard (Shannon) of New Salem, ND, and Mathew of Missoula, MT; daughter Amanda Duncan of Lolo, MT; and a sister, Phyllis (Larry) Larson of Bismarck, ND.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Floyd and Gladys Duncan.


The family suggests memorials be made to the New Salem Fire Department, New Salem Ambulance Department or a charity of your choice.
