Funeral Service for Richard D. Fedje, 69, of Spearfish, SD formerly of Killdeer and Hettinger, ND will be 10 a. m. , Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Killdeer, ND with Pastor Steve Schou officiating. Military Honors will be provided by Ezra Barrow’s Post #46. Burial will be 10 a. m. (CST), Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the North Dakota Veteran’s Cemetery in Mandan, ND. Visitation will be 9 a. m. to 2 p. m. Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at the chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson and continues from 3 p. m. to 9 p. m. , at the chapel of Stevenson Funeral Home, Killdeer with a Masonic Service at 7 p. m. Richard passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Hospice of The Northern Hills Care Facility in Spearfish, SD. Richard Dale Fedje was born on January 12, 1939, the son of Andrew and Geline (Hanson) Fedje in Rugby, ND. He grew up and attended school in Rugby and later graduated from high school there. Dick enlisted in the US Army where he served until 1959 when he was honorably discharged. He returned home to North Dakota where he enrolled in college and graduated from Valley City State. He met and married his long time sweetheart, Lorine Smith on January 13, 1964. Together, they moved to Dickinson where their daughter, Julie was born. Dick began work for the Stark County Social Services in 1966. They moved to Killdeer where Dick became the director of Dunn County Social Services and later became the Regional Representive of Economic Assistance for the State of North Dakota. In 1983, Dick and Lorine purchased and operated the Service Master Cleaning Service in Spearfish, S. D. Dick returned to Hettinger where he became the Adams County Social Service Director and later taking on the Golden Valley and Billings County Director positions. In March of 2008, Dick retired to Spearfish where he made his home. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, visiting and telling stories. He especially loved his family, grandchildren, playing ?Hide the Thimble? and traveling, around the United States. He was a member of the Killdeer Masonic Lodge #112 and later became a Shriner serving in the Jesters and Viking Patrol. While in Spearfish, he belonged to the Barber Shop Choir and served on the ESGR Regional Committee in the Support of the National Guard and Reserve. He is survived by: his wife, Lorine, Spearfish, SD; one daughter, Julie (Joel )Lesmeister, Bismarck, two grandchildren, Andrew and Stephen Lesmeister, Bismarck, ND; three sisters in law, Mary Fedje, Minneapolis, MN, Ruth Fedje, Rugby, ND and Mary Fedje, Seattle, WA and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew H. and Geline Fedje and four brothers, Ardell, Duane Mylan and David.
