Rick passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Fallon County Medical Center in Baker, MT.
Richard Charles Finneman was born on March 1, 1946 in New London, CT to Clarence and Gabrielle (Collins) Finneman. Shortly after he was born, the family moved to Golva, ND where Rick grew up on the family farm, working hard and playing hard with his many siblings and cousins. After his schooling, on September 8, 1967, Rick married Sharon Campbell in Beach, ND. Shortly thereafter, Rick enlisted in the US Army, serving for two years with the 51st Division at Fort Campbell in KY. Upon Rick’s discharge in 1969, they moved to Belgrade, MT, where he worked for a logging company before returning to the Golva area to work for his uncle, Buster Finneman, as part of a custom combine crew. Between 1968 and 1973, Rick and Sharon were blessed with three boys, Todd, Troy, and Stephen. Rick began his own business after the family moved west of Golva, which included custom haying, spraying, body work, cattle, and farming. Rick was a hard worker and was usually found at his shop late into the evening. There didn’t seem to be anything he couldn’t fix.
Over the years, Rick enjoyed racing cars as well as tractor pulls, parades, and car shows – both as an observer and participant. He was an animal lover and often enjoyed watching old westerns after a long days’ work. However, his greatest joy in life came from his family. Even when he was busy, Rick always made time for his family, especially his grandkids. They grew fond of their grandpa’s unique sense of style, with his cowboy hat, cut off sleeves and dark sunglasses. Rick was always a good sport when it came to their family pranks, of which he was usually a target. He was a great dad and grandpa, passing on his knowledge to his boys and grandkids. He will be missed dearly.
Rick is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Todd (Maxine) Finneman of Benson, MN and Troy (Kara) Finneman of Sentinel Butte, ND; grandchildren, Dallas, Kole, Megan, Kamryn, Brynn, and Aeryn; siblings, Mike (Sue) Finneman of Bismarck, ND, Patti (Dennis) Schaner of Mandan, ND, Sue Northrop of Tulelake, CA, Joe (Sue) Finneman of Wibaux, MT, Linda (Ken) Zimney of Loveland, CO, and Dooney Finneman of Beach, ND; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gabrielle; son, Stephen Finneman; grandson, Jordan Finneman; and brother, Danny Finneman.
