Burial will take place at a later date. Richard was born July 9, 1958, the 9th child of Mildred (Duffield) and Allen Griffith. He was raised just outside of Baker and graduated from Baker High School in 1976. He went to work for Delbert Schweigert out of high school. He started Griffith Steel in 1979, which he ran until the time of his death. Richard was proud of the jobs he provided over the years and especially enjoyed teaching young people the construction trade. He had a work ethic that was unrivaled and he usually worked 7 days a week. His rare days off were spent watching Vikings football, vacationing with his family or attending auction sales. He was married to Saundra Knipp in April of 1977, they would later divorce. Four children were born of the marriage, Janet, Jeanna, Todd, and Michele. He dearly loved his children and devoted his life to their joy and happiness. Richard owned a cabin in Nye, Montana, it was his place to relax and he loved nothing more than sitting at the table and enjoying the mountain views while his grandchildren played. Richard bought a whole fleet of UTVs this summer and had so much fun exploring the roads around his cabin. He adored his 7 grandchildren and was a doting grandpa, babysitting whenever needed, attending their activities and completely spoiling them with toys. Richard loved his Baker community and would help wherever he could. He was involved with Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. He had a very generous heart and was always ready to lend a hand or equipment. Richard spent his final few days doing what he loved, spending time with his family. We will all miss him dearly.
