Richard was born on December 3, 1929, the son of John R. and Mary (Genre) Owen. He grew up in the Ridgway area where he attended country school through the 8th grade. Richard was 8 years old when his father passed away. His mother, with the help of longtime family friend, RO Burch, was able to maintain the ranch. RO subsequently grew to be a father figure to Richard. Richard had a quest to fly airplanes at a very young age, and at 15 he became a pilot. He purchased his first airplane at the age of 17. Richard was married to Clarice Richards on February 4, 1951 in Rapid City, SD. To this union, four children were born: Jack, Curt, Marlee, and Tracey. Together they ranched and raised their family in the Ridgway area. He taught his children the love of land and livestock, instilling in them a strong work ethic. Richard loved his family and the ranch life. At the age of 38, Richard completed his high school education by earning his GED. Richard volunteered his time to various boards and community events. He had a wonderful sense of humor and quiet nature. Richard was one of the lucky ones in that he did what he loved and never had to ?work? a day in his life. He cherished and enjoyed a good visit with anyone who would stop by. When the kids were young Richard enjoyed taking the family on vacations. The mountains were a favorite destination, and he always loved a stop at an airport to watch the big planes land and take off. Over the years he was privileged to ride a few good horses, and have one great dog. His beloved wife, Clarice was alongside him, helping him and encouraging him for 61 years. His latest love was being able to work with his grandchildren. To them he was ?Richie?, and he enjoyed seeing them grow. He will be dearly missed. Survivors include his wife, Clarice, Hammond, MT; sons, Jack (Rosina) Owen, Alzada, MT; and Curt (Margo) Owen, Hammond, MT; daughters, Marlee (Alvin) Cordell, Camp Crook, SD; and Tracey (Rodney) Walker, Ekalaka, MT; sisters Celia (Richard) Yates, Hammond, MT; and Betty (Llewellyn) Hanson, Kingman, AZ; grandchildren, Rory (Kayla) Owen, Julie (Brandon) Hatling, John (Amanda) Owen, Mary Owen, Bobbi Owen, Ashley (Wade) Pearson, Ryan (Tawni) Cordell, Jay Cordell, Travis (Amy) Walker, Jamie (Jessica) Walker, Hailey Walker, Jordan Walker; and 9 great-grandchildren.
