Richard Rasch

Richard Rasch, age 84, of Halliday, passed away September 3, 2023 at Sakakawea Medical Center in Hazen. Per Richard’s wishes, cremation has taken place.

Richard John Rasch was born September 19, 1938 north of Halliday, the son of Christian and Lydia (Kruckenberg) Rasch.  He attended Pioneer #1 School through the eighth grade and graduated from Halliday High School in 1956.  Richard joined the US Navy on June 28, 1956 in Fargo, ND. He worked on the aircraft carriers Intrepid and Independence.  He was honorably discharged on June 26, 1962 in Norfolk, VA.  Richard was married to Dorothy Anderson in Minturn, Colorado in 1961.  To this union, Cheryl, Charlotte, Christine, Cathy and Carolyn were born. 

Richard was an underground miner in Colorado and Missouri from 1959 to 1982.  He then became a commercial fisherman in Alaska until 2005.  In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially gardening. He loved to give the vegetables he grew to everyone in his neighborhood. Richard was a member of the Eagles Club and Moose Lodge.

Richard is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Schollenberg, Charlotte (Ron) Records, Christine Rasch, Cathy (Joe) Bolton, and Carolyn Burton; one brother, Walter Rasch; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Christian and Lydia; brothers, Roland, Otto, Herbert, Arthur, George, and Albert; and sisters, Agatha, Hilda, Edna, and Erna.
