Richard Schmautz, age 73 of Hebron, died Monday, December 25, 2006 at the Richardton Memorial Hospital in Richardton. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Central Time on Friday, December 29, at the First Baptist Church in Hebron with the Rev. David Ling, officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM at Spangelo Funeral Home in Hebron with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Visitation also one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be held in the Glen Ullin Cemetery. Richard was born March 5, 1933 on the farm south of Glen Ullin the son of Jacob and Minnie (Metzger) Schmautz. He was raised in Grant County and attended and graduated from Elgin School. Richard worked for the Singer Company in a number of cities over the years, he moved back to North Dakota and lived at Gladstone until he retired and moved to Hebron. Richard loved gospel music, and enjoyed playing the accordion for many engagements. He is survived by his step children: Gwen (Pete) Breer, St. Cloud, MN; Jay Schimke, Minneapolis, MN; and Heidi Schimke, Anaheim, CA; two grandchildren and five great grand children. He is also leaves one sister Arlene Klein, Hebron and his special friend Irene Schnaidt. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers Wilbert and Norman.
