Funeral Mass for Richard “Dick” Zalesky, 78, of Dickinson will be 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Military Rites will be presented by the American Legion Post #3 Honor Guard. Burial will follow in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.
Visitation for Dick will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 21 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Dick passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Sanford Health in Bismarck.
Richard was born January 31, 1939 in Dickinson, the son of Alex and Pauline Zalesky. He grew up on the farm west of South Heart and attended Roosevelt Elementary School as a young boy. In 1959, he went to work in oilfield maintenance. Dick married Janette Huck in St. Pius Catholic Church, Sheffield on October 26, 1960. They were blessed with five children, Rod, Doug, Jeff, Steve and Stacey. Dick proudly served in the Army National Guard. He retired from the oilfield in 2001 and was currently enjoying his retirement. Dick enjoyed playing cards, Sunday drives in the country and watching old westerns. He was a life member of Elks, Eagles and St. Anthony Club.
Dick is survived by his wife, Janette; sons, Rod (Corina) of Dickinson, Jeff (Roxi) of Westminster, CO, Steve (Connie) of Mascoutah, IL; daughter, Stacey (Shane) Kovash of Byron, MN; six grandchildren; sisters, Marge Anderson of Corpus Christi, TX, Bonnie (Dean) Mack of Bowman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Pauline Zalesky; son, Douglas Zalesky; grandson, Michael Zalesky-Weigel; brother, Arlen Zalesky; sister, Helen Casteel.
