Rita Filibeck

Funeral services for Rita Filibeck, 93, of Glen Ullin, ND, 10:00 a.m. CST, Monday, Feb. 20, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Arul Joseph celebrating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Glen Ullin.


Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p m. with a Rosary & Vigil Service at 5:00 p.m. CST at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Glen Ullin. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to the service.


Rita passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Medcenter One St. Vincent’s Care Center, Bismarck, ND.


Rita Marie Braun was born November 10, 1918 in Haymarsh, ND, daughter of Reinhard and Theresia (Hartinger) Braun. She attended Sacred Heart Parochial School through the eighth grade and graduated from Glen Ullin High School. After high school, Rita attended Dickinson State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She began her teaching career at rural country schools north of Glen Ullin before becoming an elementary teacher at Sacred Heart Parochial School and Glen Ullin Public Schools. On August 29, 1944, Rita married Raymond J. Filibeck at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glen Ullin. To this union three children were born: Charlotte, Rick and Deb. She was a very active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, serving as the principal for the Sacred Heart Religious Education Program for many years as well as a Eucharistic Minister and a member of the Sacred Heart Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Homemaker’s Club, Square Dancers Club and was a volunteer at the local library. Rita enjoyed playing cards and board games. She lovingly made many baby afghans and baby quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rita was an avid reader and spent many hours tending to her garden and visiting with her family. Her most important priorities were her faith and the love of her family. She was a role model and inspiration to all. Rita was known to say “The love & joy my children & grandchildren brought cannot be bought. One of God’s greatest gifts to us, the children.”


Rita is survived by her children, Charlotte (Milo) Gunderson, Bismarck, Rick (Gerry) Filibeck, Glen Ullin and Deb (Duane) Huffman, Dickinson; nine grandchildren, Wendy (Jeremy) Zako, Scott (Miranda) Huffman, Steph Huffman, Katie Huffman, Kelly Huffman, Brian (Darcie) Filibeck, Becky (Don) Heley, Chris Filibeck & Corey Filibeck and seven great-grandchildren, Ryan & Kyle Heley, Dawson & Savana Filibeck, Taylor, Nick and Audrey Zako.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; parents, Reinhard and Theresia Braun; four sisters, Betty Weisgerber, Kate Schaaf, Sister Agnes Therese Braun and Agnes Haller and four brothers, Reiny, Joe, Bill and Louis Braun.
