Funeral Services for RoAnn Welk, 63, of Dickinson are 4:00 p. m. , Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel in Dickinson. Visitation is 1:00 p. m. to 8:00 p. m. , Wednesday, January 4, 2006, continuing on Thursday from 8:00 a. m. 2:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel. RoAnn lost a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the St. Joseph’s Hospital and Health Center in Dickinson. RoAnn was born November 9, 1942, the second oldest (only girl) to Romen and Arla (Anderson) Fitzner in Granite Falls, MN. The family moved to Valley City, ND when RoAnn was very young. It was there that RoAnn grew up and attended school, graduating from Valley City High School in 1960. She then attended college at Wahpeton, where she earned her Certificate of Nursing. She completed her licensing internship in Rugby, ND and it was there where she met Richard Welk. They were married on July 31, 1963 in Rugby and they were blessed with three children. The family moved to Dickinson and RoAnn opened up a Daycare in her home and her family grew immensely as lasting relationships were formed with the children she cared for. RoAnn later moved to Scottsdale, AZ and worked as a nanny, returning to Dickinson a few years later. During the last seven years, she worked at St. Benedict?s Healthcare as a CNA, where she was loved by her co-workers. RoAnn also enjoyed traveling and spent some time in Mobile, AL with her companion, Syd Swanson. RoAnn truly loved her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who were very dear to her. She is survived by: her mother, Arla Fitzner, Valley City; one son, Dean (Paulette) Welk, Dickinson; two daughters: Lisa (Pamela Olah) Welk, Minneapolis, MN, Sara (Todd) Anderson, Dickinson; four brothers: R. Jon Fitzner, Kurt Fitzner, Rick (Jo) Fitzner, Mark (Cindy) Fitzner, all of Valley City, ND; four grandchildren: Saraya, Tyler, Jared, Parker, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded by her father, Romen.
