Bob passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at his home in Spearfish, SD. Robert Stanley Alexander was born October 27, 1922 on a farm just outside of Sleeper, Missouri, the son of Neal and Carrie (Brown) Alexander. Bob was the seventh of eight children. He attended Goodwin country school and graduated from Stoutland High School at the age of 16. When Bob wasn’t in school, he worked long, hard hours farming with his dad. In March of 1943, Bob enlisted in the Army and began attending Ripon College in Ripon, WI. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant during WWII. As part of the 71st Division, he spent 17 months deployed in combat during the European Theater and played a major role in the liberation of concentration camps. After returning from the war, he traveled to California, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Oregon working on the railroad. Bob then went to work for Shell Pipeline, where he worked as an electrical technician for nearly four decades. On May 24, 1953, Bob was united in marriage to Gussie Wilson. His job took them to Oklahoma, Texas and finally Baker, Montana where they raised their four children: Jamie, Joel, Rena and Kyle. After he retired, Spearfish, SD became their home. Bob accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and served as a deacon, music director, and Bible study teacher most of his adult life. Bob loved life, and his family meant the world to him. He passed down his unmatched work ethic, wonderful sense of humor, love for baseball and homemade ice cream, and his passion for music to his kids and grandkids. His energy, wit, and good health belied his 91 years, and he only suffered from illness the last month of his life.
