Funeral Mass for Robert James Golik, 66, of Dickinson will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dickinson. Father Keith Streifel will be celebrant.


Burial will be held at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Vancouver, WA. Visitation for Robert will be 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011 at Stevenson Funeral Home in Dickinson, with a Rosary and Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.


Robert passed away Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Medcenter One in Bismarck, ND, due to complications from surgery to remove a lung.


Robert J. Golik was born October 3, 1944 in Vancouver, WA, the son of Florian and Elizabeth (Rylla) Golik. He grew up in Vancouver. After graduating from high school, Robert served in the U. S. Army for several years. Upon discharge, he returned to Vancouver. He worked as an insulator helper, marine helper, and welder. Robert served a year in the Merchant Marines. In 1989, while attending a Lay Dominican meeting at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon, Robert met Alice Buhler. The two married later that year, October 7, the Feast of the Holy Rosary, at Holy Rosary Church. They have three children, Jennifer, Mary Rose and Joseph. Robert worked in building and grounds maintenance for two churches and an area hospital. In 2002, the family made Dickinson their home. In August of this year, Robert was diagnosed with mesothelioma and passed away while recovering from surgery, on September 22, 2011. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He also loved reading, poetry, and music. Robert was a gentle, hardworking, spiritual man. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.


Robert is survived by his wife, Alice; two daughters, Jennifer Golik of Vancouver, WA and Mary Rose Golik of Dickinson; one son, Joseph Golik of Dickinson; two grandchildren, Reegan and Mackenzie; one sister, Carol (Ralph) LeCompte of Kennewick, WA; and two brothers, Florian “Timothy” (Theresa) Golik of Ridgefield,WA and Daniel (Su) Golik of Vancouver, WA.
