Bob Hanson was born June 25, 1927 in Croff, ND, the only child of Hans O. and Lillian (May) Hanson. He grew up in a log cabin near the Little Missouri River in the badlands north of Killdeer, ND, and graduated in 1946 from Killdeer High School. He worked as a cowboy and ranch hand before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
After a long courtship, Bob married Alma Adeline Kleemann in Dickinson on April 14, 1953. In 1959, he began working for the Killdeer Equity Elevator. When he was promoted to manager in 1962, the couple moved to Killdeer with their four children. Bob subsequently worked for Cenex in Dickinson, and in 1979, he took a position as crop monitor for Cenex in Edgeley, ND. Upon retirement in 1989, Bob and Alma returned to Killdeer.
In 2012, Bob and Alma moved to Hill Top Home of Comfort and everyone there quickly became his second family. It was “home”.
Bob and Alma were active members of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Killdeer, and throughout the community. The two were always together whether visiting friends and family or fencing and climbing hills in their beloved badlands.
Robert Edward “Bob” Hanson passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017 at CHI St. Alexius Health in Dickinson, ND, surrounded by family. His family and friends meant the world to him and he cherished each and every one. He will be deeply missed.
