Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Koppinger, 83, of New England, is 9:00 a. m. MST on Saturday, November 1, 2003, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, New England with Father Basil Atwell, celebrating. Interment is at 10:00 a. m. MST on Monday, November 3, 2003 in the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery in Mandan. Visitation is Friday from 9:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m. at Stevenson-Mischel-Olson Chapel continuing from 5:00 p. m. to 9:00 p. m. with a rosary and vigil service at 7:00 p. m. at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, New England. Robert passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2003, at his home in New England after a 21-year battle with cancer. Robert was born June 14, 1920, in New England, ND to Nick G. and Susanna (Martin) Koppinger. He grew up and attended school in New England, graduating from St. Mary?s High School in 1937. At a very young age, he began working with his father at a local garage. Robert enlisted in the US Army on February 25, 1942. He served in the South Pacific and was honorably discharged on December 21, 1945. Robert returned to New England where he started working for a car dealer and later the John Deere Implement Dealer. On February 14, 1949 he was married to Sylvia Holzemer at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Amidon, ND. Robert worked for over 40 years as a mechanic, retiring in 1989. They continued to make New England their home. Robert loved fishing, woodworking and making model airplanes and furniture. He enjoyed giving many of his projects to family and friends. He also enjoyed old time music and attending his children?s and grandchildren?s musical events. Robert will be greatly missed by his wife Sylvia, 5 sons: Jerald (LaVerne) Koppinger, Dickinson, ND; Daniel Koppinger, San Diego, CA, Allen (Cindy) Koppinger of Dickinson, ND, Howard Koppinger, Sidney, MT, Timothy (Janet) Koppinger, Fargo, ND; 4 daughters: Carole (Marty) Bjugstad, Sheldon, ND; Kathleen Koppinger; Ann Arbor, MI; Barbara (AJ) Olson; Sidney, MT and Laura Koppinger, Gilbert, AZ; 4 brothers: Carl (Mina), Edward (Fern), and James (Helen) all of New England, ND and Harold (Carol), Mandan, ND, 2 sisters: Anna Marie (Don) Wallner, Richardton, ND and Vivian (Arnold) Rotering, New England, ND; a sister-in-law, Della Mae Koppinger, Akron, CO and eleven grandchildren. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Susanna, step-mother Rose, and his brother William. Memorials may be made to St. Mary?s School Foundation, St. Joseph?s Heartland Hospice, or the American Cancer Society.
