Robert Kovacs, 89, of Dickinson, formerly of Youngstown, OH, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2018 at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson. In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation has taken place and inurnment will take place at a later date.
Robert Kovacs was born October 17, 1928 in Youngstown, OH, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Laubert) Kovacs. He grew up and attended school in Youngstown, graduating from Chaney High School with the class of 1946. Robert enlisted in the United States Army; serving during World War II. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Youngstown. It was during this time that he met Margaret Mulichak. On May 7, 1949, Robert and Margaret were united in marriage and together raised their family in Youngstown. Robert worked for A.G. Sharp Lumber Company and eventually took over his father’s position with the company. Robert retired from A.G. Sharp after 46 years of service. In 2005, Robert and Margaret moved to Dickinson and had made his home here ever since.
Robert enjoyed spending time golfing, bowling, and weekend gatherings with friends. He will be fondly remembered for waving to all who passed by him as he sat at his regular spot on the State Ave bench, his frequent stops at Jeff’s Sinclair as well as being the first one to open the West River Community Center each day. Robert will be greatly missed by family, friends and all who came in contact with him.
Robert is survived by his son, Gregg (Simin) Kovacs, Dickinson, ND; daughter, Paulette Kovacs, Clinton, MA; five grandchildren; sisters, May Ann (Joe) Timko and Marge (Charlie) Senediak, both of Youngstown, OH.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; both parents; and a brother, John Kovacs.
