A funeral mass for Robert Ronco Walton, 87, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a. m. , Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Dickinson with Father Todd Kreitinger celebrating. A committal service will be held this summer at St. Patrick’s Cemetery. Visitation for Bob will be 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m. , Tuesday, February 18, 2012 at Stevenson Funeral Home, continuing at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church from 5:00 p. m. to 7:00 p. m. A rosary and vigil service will be held at 6:00 p. m. at the church. Bob passed away Sunday, February 16, 2014, at St. Benedict’s Health Center in Dickinson, ND. Robert R Walton was born August 10, 1926, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Dickinson, the son of William H. and Josephine (Ronco) Walton. The Walton family settled in Dickinson in the late 1800s. He grew up and attended school in Dickinson, graduating from Dickinson High School in 1944. Bob went on to attend NDSU, Creighton University and the University of Oregon. Bob enlisted in the United Sates Navy in 1945 and served on an aircraft carrier until being honorably discharged in 1947. In 1949, Bob and Doris Krank were united in marriage. To this union seven children were born: Michael, Betty Jo, Paul, Robert II, Janie, Tracy and Marimichael. On March 17, 1989, Bob and his childhood friend, Joan Patterson were married. The couple would have celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on St. Patrick’s Day. Bob enjoyed spending time golfing, and was an avid member of the Dickinson Golf Association. He was a member of the Elks Club for over 50 years. Bob was a very handy man; he liked to spend his free time fixing various items. As a young man, he enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting. Bob, the last Walton to reside in Dickinson, is survived by his wife, Joan; children, Betty Jo Walton, Paul Walton, Janie Walton, Tracy Lollis and Marimichael Walton all of California; sister, Mary Dot Hoffman of Eugene, OR; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Michael at birth in 1950, and Bobby in 2012; a brother, Bill; and a sister Shirley Larkin. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Dickinson Public Library or Trinity Elementary West.
