A memorial service for Roene Hulsing, 75, of Dickinson will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 18th at Stevenson Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Pretzer officiating.

A prayer service for Roene will be held on Friday, April 17th at 7:00 pm at Peace Lutheran Church in Dickinson, North Dakota.

Roene passed away January 7th in Bismarck, North Dakota.

Roene Joyce Hulsing was born July 22, 1944 in Wing, ND, northeast of Bismarck, the daughter of Ray and Helma Lein. She had an adventurous childhood with her siblings and cousins, graduating from Wing Public High School in 1962. She attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN and graduated with a music education degree in 1966.

Roene married Dennis Hulsing on July 31, 1966. They have three daughters, Kerry Hulsing of Ann Arbor, MI, Wendy Hulsing of Kansas City, MO, and Lori Hulsing of Minneapolis, MN.

Roene and Dennis moved to Dickinson in the summer of 1974. While her daughters were young, Roene enrolled at Dickinson State University and completed an accounting degree. She worked as a CPA in public accounting for 37 years and owned her own firm. Roene loved numbers, problem-solving and helping people and combined these loves into a wonderful career. She earned a reputation for her thoroughness, fairness and sound judgement that made her a well-respected member of the community.

Music continued to play an important role in Roene’s life. She played organ, piano and directed the adult choir at Peace Lutheran Church. She loved attending community concerts with friends and family and encouraged piano and instrument playing in her own family. Her favorite activities were singing or dancing with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she delighted in their activities and their achievements, big and small.

Roene will always be remembered for her kindness and generosity. Despite a busy schedule, Roene always found time to care for others. She enjoyed making new friends and trying out new experiences, including traveling to Italy and India, among other locations. She was a voracious reader, and life-long learner. Roene was enjoying life up to the very end. She felt God had blessed her in so many ways and she had an amazing ability to never lose sight of what was truly important in life.

She is survived by her daughters, sons-in-law Sanjaya Gupta and TJ Wildenborg, seven grandchildren, her sister, Connie During of Lodi, CA, her brother, Rob Lein of Fargo, ND and her mother, Helma Lein of Dickinson.

In lieu of flowers, Roene’s family suggests donations may be made to ELCA Good Gifts catalog at or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at Condolences or correspondence may be sent to the family c/o Wendy Hulsing, 3613 W 121st Terrace, Leawood, KS.
